Autism Safety Education and Training (ASET)

Police and Fire Departments, Emergency Medical Services, Dispatchers, Search and Rescue

Man speakingFirst Responders play an important role in all types of emergencies that involve children and adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Responding to these emergencies takes special knowledge of autism and an awareness of the likely actions and reactions of individuals with autism during a crisis or life-threatening situation.

The Maine Autism Institute for Education and Research supports efforts to train Maine’s first responders for emergencies involving persons with ASD. We have partnered with Autism Safety Education &Training (ASET) to promote and support their efforts to train law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical service providers, and other first responders.

To learn more about Autism Training for First Responders, including a listing of upcoming trainings, visit the ASET website or contact ASET for more information. Matt Brown, founder of ASET and Trainer, is a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and a parent of a child with ASD, and has ten years of experience conducting training for first responders, families, and communities across the state of Maine.
