Beyond the Birds and the Bees:  Sexuality and Relationship Education for People with Autism and Developmental Disabilities (Part 1 of 2-part workshop)
Participants are highly encouraged to attend both sessions of this 2-part offering as the April 11, 2019 content will build on the content presented in this session.

Speaker: Victoria Slocum, Ph.D.

Sessions begin at 9am and end at 3:30pm. Sign-in begins at 8:30 am. Lunch is the responsibility of participants.

The first of a two-part workshop  to present the history as well as the current state of sexuality and relationship education for people with autism and developmental disabilities. This workshop will present the history as well as the current state of sexuality and relationship education for people with autism and developmental disabilities; evidence-based strategies for including sexuality education in special education curricula and IEPs; present resources currently available for teaching sexual health education; and present strategies to use when facing barriers. A resource list will be available.

Part 2 of this series, “Creating a Toolbox: Sexuality and Relationship Education for People with Autism and Developmental Disabilities,” is offered on  April 11, 2019.

Contact hours are awarded upon completion of the workshop. CEUs (.6) are available with a $20 processing fee.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Victoria Slocum is Director of Academic Accessibility at Asbury University in Wilmore, KY. She holds a PhD in Special Education as well as certificates in assistive technology, cognitive disabilities, behavior disabilities, and learning disabilities. Her present research includes sexuality and relationship education for people with intellectual disabilities, as well as the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in their faith communities.
