Maine Family Partnership “My Day to Play” event a huge success

My Day to Play
My Day to Play

Our first family event hosted by the MAIER Maine Family Partnership (MFP) was a huge success! Thirty-five families attended this fun and educational event held at the Maine Discovery Museum on their December 7th “My Day to Play.” The Museum offered dedicated time and space to families with children with autism and their siblings to enjoy the museum exhibits and special activities. MAIER’s MFP hosted a visit from Santa, and a representative from the Maine Parent Federation was on hand to meet with parents.

Santa and his elf photographer were a big hit for the children and their families, and thanks to Felicia Kasprzak, one of our MFP volunteers, each family received a digital copy of their child’s photo with Santa. Ann Long, of the Maine Parent Federation, met with parents to offer support, and to share her knowledge and resources on advocating for their children in their schools and communities. Families were able to enjoy refreshments and an opportunity to meet other families affected by autism. Student volunteers from the University of Maine lent a hand to make this event a success.

Many thanks to the families who attended, our volunteers, the MAIER MFP parents, the Maine Parent Federation, and to the Maine Discovery Museum for making this event happen!
