The idea is similar to Soap Box Derby, except the race is held on nearly 1 mile of steep and twisty campus road.<\/p>\n<p>The cars are required to maneuver and stop as well as coast effectively.<\/p>\n<p>The 2009 competition saw UMaine\u2019s first ever entry, the \u201cBlack Bear\u201d coaster car. The car, driven by Corey Vincent (3rd year ME student), unseated a three-year defending champion for first place in race part of the competition as well as winning \u201cbest design\u201d and \u201cbest new entry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The club plans to head to New Brunswick in Fall 2017 to compete.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone
