Outreach & Service
ASCE is active in the community throughout the semester. By becoming involved with ASCE you will have the chance to participate in service activities with middle-schoolers, helping to get them interested in math and science, and to become involved on a community-level through various service projects like Habitat for Humanity.
The 2016 Engineering Expo was an opportunity for over 1,800 children and adults to experience engineering and help youth imagine future careers in engineering. ASCE contributed to the Expo with nearly 15 volunteers throughout the day from the Student Chapter and Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe Teams. Volunteers helped demonstrate important (and fun!) aspects of civil engineering to young students and adults alike at the concrete canoe table, surprising everyone with floating concrete and showing off the concrete canoe. Volunteers also hosted the toothpick and candy bridge building table, where kids were able to build candy bridges with the help of student volunteers, or just be creative. Volunteers also helped the ASCE Younger Member table with making concrete hands and other activities. Overall, the expo was a great opportunity for volunteers to show their passion for civil engineering to the next generation of engineering students.
