SUMMARY:Maine Woodland Owners APCAW webinar
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will highlight efforts to preserve brown ash (Fraxinus nigra)\, a tree that is both ecologically important and culturally central to Wabanaki communities\, as the invasive emerald ash borer (EAB) continues to spread across Maine. Presenters will discuss collaborative work led by the Ash Protection Collaboration Across Waponahkik (APCAW) at the University of Maine and Tribal partners to document genetic diversity in brown ash populations\, collect and store seed for long-term conservation\, and harvest basket-quality trees before widespread mortality occurs. The session will also explore how these efforts support both ecological resilience and the continuation of Wabanaki basketmaking traditions\, and how landowners can participate by helping identify brown ash stands for sampling\, seed collection\, and harvest.\n\nRegister here
