About the Writing Center
The Writing Center has been in operation for over 30 years. The Center is located in 402 Neville Hall and is a free service to any UMaine student, faculty or staff member. Our sessions last up to fifty minutes during which a trained reader will help you with focus, development, coherence, mechanics, and style.
The tutors are University of Maine students (undergraduate and graduate levels) who have been selected by faculty and have successfully undergone a semester-long internship program. We are dedicated to collaboratively working on writing to ensure each individual finds ways to better express his or her ideas.
We will accept walk-ins per tutor availability but to guarantee a spot, use our online booking system at maine.mywconline.com or call (207) 581-3828 to schedule an appointment.
We will work on any piece of writing you have at any stage in the process, from developing your ideas or tackling a difficult project to fine tuning a paper at the graduate level.
What to bring to your tutoring session:
The most important thing to bring is the assignment (if you have one) and any writing you have done so far on the assignment. Here is a helpful list of things to consider bringing:
- The assignment (class notes, handouts, syllabus, etc)
- Your paper, or multiple drafts of your paper
- Research materials (this sometimes helps with citation questions or quoting)
