Text-Only Virtual Tour - Campus Life

Up

To us, it’s not a direction, it’s a way of life.

It’s about being the first. The only. The best.

It’s about reaching higher, looking deeper, thinking bigger. Because there’s nothing to gain from dreaming small.

At the University of Maine, you’ll find courses that challenge you, research that will stretch your mind and professors who demand excellence. And you will deliver.

And when you graduate, as one student says, you’ll still be the same person you are today. Just a better version.

Raise your expectations.

Come up to the University of Maine.

Campus visits

Join us for one of our in-depth Open House Programs or get a quick first look at UMaine during a Saturday Information Session. You can also schedule an interview and a tour when it works best for you. To schedule a visit, call 1-877-486-2364 or email um-admit@maine.edu.

Student experience

Why UMaine? We asked our students. Maybe you’ll see a little bit of yourself in their answers, their goals, their drive. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll see yourself here.

Campus activities

You can head to downtown Orono or Bangor for shopping, dining, movies and more. But really, you don’t need to leave campus to have a good time. There’s so much to do here — including the pictured Janelle Monae show, part of her Campus Consciousness Tour — that UMaine has earned national recognition for programming.

Great tastes

At UMaine, you’ll find your favorite comfort foods, but you’ll also find stir-fry to order, spicy curries, loaded burritos, sushi and the best Buffalo chicken wrap around. And there are always vegetarian options. Have special dietary needs? Our staff will work with you to help create a meal plan that suits your lifestyle.

First-year success

The transition from high school to college is a big one, and First Year Experience helps make it easier. At UMaine, first-year students are required to live on campus, and they work and play together in designated halls. Resources, programming and services help first-year students get to know their classmates, make the most of their academics and prepare for the realities of college, while opening the door to the many new opportunities available at UMaine. A companion residential program, Second Year Experience, will benefit transfer students.

Winter wonderland

We may be Black Bears, but we don’t hibernate during the winter. Whether you stay on campus for events such as Winter Carnival or head off to a nearby mountain for tubing, snowboarding or skiing, you’ll find plenty of ways to celebrate the snowy season. Oh, and the average January temperature difference between Orono, Maine, and Worcester, Mass., is 3 degrees.

Common ground

Students and faculty from all over the country — and the world — come together at UMaine, making our campus one of the most diverse communities in Maine. UMaine celebrates diversity in all its forms through clubs, events and resources such as the Office of Multicultural Programs. UMaine has a national reputation as a safe and welcoming place.
