Academics - Seimens Competition
UBMS Individual Research Project Scholarship Opportunity
This summer UBMS will prepare you to enter the Seimens Competition, a competitive STEM competition based on your Individual Research Project! Research Projects are judged based on originality, creativity, academic rigor, and clarity of communicating scientific results within your Individual Research Project paper. You’re not required to apply, but it’s a great opportunity! You should consider whether entering this contest is right for you.
There are specific guidelines required to enter. Your Scientific Writing class at UBMS will prepare you to meet the formatting requirements. There are also registration and submission processes – your UB Counselor can help you if you’re interested:
Registration Opens: May 1st
Project Submission: End of September (specific date TBA)
If you think your Individual Research Project might involve either human subjects or vertebrate animal subjects, you will be required to formally apply to conduct research through the University of Maine. Students working with graduate students or professors in labs will likely be performing research under an existing protocol that has already been granted permission by the university. Regardless, UB will need to know early in late winter whether your project fits in this category, because this process is lengthy and will require forethought and special applications. You will need to write something ahead of time describing your project, in conjunction with your mentor. If this competition interests you, please don’t let any of these hurdles discourage you! Kelly and the UBMS academic team are here to help you apply and meet all of the requirements!
Ask your UB Counselor today for more information, or visit the Seimens website.
