From the mountains to the sea, this trip includes all the wonders of life on the coast of Maine.
Explore the mountains, forest, river and sea of the Ducktrap River watershed. Campers backpack through the local forest, canoe in nearby ponds and bogs, and camp in remote sites along the Ducktrap River, atop Bald Rock and on Warren Island.
The trip features a 4-mile backpacking trip, passing through the Ducktrap Wildlife Preserve, which provides for wonderful opportunities for wildlife discovery and exploration. The backpacking portion of the trip culminates with an ascent of Bald Rock Mountain, overlooking the coast and providing some spectacular views.
From Bald Rock, campers continue to take the ferry out to Islesboro. From there they canoe over to Warren Island State Park for the final section of the trip. Â Enjoy ocean canoeing adventures, fresh seafood, soccer and some relaxing days as you sample summer-time island life.
Along their journey from river to ocean, campers learn the skills necessary to travel lightly with the least impact and to find their way through forests without a trail.
