Blueberry Cove, Tenants Harbor - Sailing Camps, 9-17
Saint George Community Sailing Foundation provides all sailing instruction at Blueberry Cove. SGCSF has more than a decade of teaching seamanship on the waters of Tenants Harbor in a way that honors Maine’s marine environment and nautical history. The fleet of ten ”Hunter 90″ dinghies, are nine foot, single sail catboats that self-right if capsized and are unsinkable. Four, 14 foot high-performance “420″ dinghies and 3 larger sloops allow for more advanced adventures. Lead by certified US Sailing Association Instructors, campers learn:
- A fun skill that can be enjoyed for a lifetime
- Safety, right of way, parts of a sailboat, knots & lines
- Wind awareness, weather, tides & currents
- Sails, rigging the boat & sailing upwind and down wind
- Capsize & overboard recovery
- Leaving & returning to a dock or mooring
- Marine ecology of Tenants Harbor & history of St. George sailing
