Residential Camp, ages 8-14 - Daily Rhythm
The rhythm of camplife at Blueberry Cove is strongly connected to the rhythms of the tides. We have to swim when the tide is high and explore the mudflats when the tide is low! Although we strive to maintain a basic routine, each day is packed full of new and exciting activities—no two days are ever exactly alike!
7:20 – Rise and Shine!
7:40 – Morning circle: A way to get campers moving and ready for their day morning circle includes fun songs and a bit of yoga before breakfast.
7:50 – Breakfast
9:00 – Morning focus: Campers choose a focus group for the week. This gives everyone the chance to explore a topic in depth and to develop connections with other campers in the group. Focus time is rooted in the ideal of ”learning by doing.”
12:00 – Lunchtime!
1:00 – Siesta. A quieter time in camp, spent together relaxing in your cabin with cabin mates. A great time to read, write letters, play a quiet game or cards or even take a nap!
2:00 – Community Living: Each cabin group works together and contributes to the camp community by completing cabin chores that are listed on the Community Living board in the dining hall. We are a community of people living together and must take care of that community accordingly. Chores are designed to reinforce community and sustainability goals and include: recycling, composting or gathering lettuce from our garden for the dinner salad.
2:30 – Afternoon Programming: Campers have the option to pick an activity to participate in for the afternoon. Activities change daily, and can include a hike to roaring spout, “plantable” recycled paper making, or taking the boats for a row across the harbor.
4:30 – Free Time: With counselors stationed throughout the camp, campers can float freely between swimming at the beach, games in the field, or a low key craft on the porch. Or campers can just take this time to relax and enjoy their time and new friends.
5:30 – Dinner
6:30 – Evening Programming: Mondays traditionally include game of capture-the-flag and Thursdays are a campfire. Tuesdays and Wednesdays can range from a pirate adventure on the seven seas, to helping Harry Potter rescue his friends, to a rock concert, to… well the possibilities are endless!
8:30 – Campfire
9:00 – Back to cabins. Quiet time begins for the evening. Cabin groups share stories from their day and maybe have a game of cards before settling down for the night, often accompanied by bedtime stories.
