The Second Year Experience
The Second Year Experience (SYE) is a new initiative at UMaine, focused on providing support and guidance to second-year students. A number of second-year students are still seeking to find their path in life; some have not yet declared a major, while others have a major but aren’t sure where their major can or will take them in life. Many students also enter their second year at UMaine seeking to engage more with the university campus, whether through an on-campus job or internship, by connecting with campus services and resources, or by getting involved in campus clubs and organizations. The SYE staff are here to help guide you through these processes and decisions!
The SYE seeks to proactively connect second-year students to valuable resources, including the Career Center, the Bodwell Center for Service and Volunteerism, the Study Abroad office, student organizations and leadership development opportunities. We focus on these areas because we know that being involved on campus, building your resume and doing well academically are key factors that will help you be a better candidate in the job market when you graduate.
