FAQs

What is SWE?

The Society of Women Engineers is a national organization that promotes women and diversity in the STEM fields, and encourages the success of its members as engineers in creating a brighter future. For more information, please check out SWE.org/about-swe

Who can join SWE?

SWE is open to any student majoring in engineering, engineering technology, or mathematics. We encourage all STEM field majors, or those interested in engineering and science to join!

How do I join?

Come to our next meeting! We meet Mondays at 4:00 pm in the Totman room of the Student Union. Contact our secretary, Jordan Tremont on her @maine.edu account to be added to our mail list.

Can men join SWE?

YES! Men are allowed to become members of both our local chapter here at UMaine, and the national chapter of SWE. Any STEM field student, regardless of gender, is welcome to get involved with SWE.

When are meetings?

Meetings are Mondays at 4:00 pm in the Totman room of the Student Union.

What do you do at meetings?

We discuss current and future events we will be participating in, such as volunteer opportunities within the community, the annual Engineering Formal, SWE national and regional conferences, and social events with other engineering groups on campus. We also organize a variety of professional and networking activities such as resume building and mock interviews.
