Ecology and Environmental Sciences
Julia holds a B.S. in Ecology and Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Resource and Environmental Policy and a minor in Spanish. For five years, she worked to develop her environmental experience further by working in consulting, city government, human rights and advocacy, education and field biology. Julia is back at UMaine working on her Ph.D in Ecology and Environmental Sciences with support from the School of Economics and the Sustainability Solutions Initiative. She has come full circle and is now also teaching EES 100–the class that inspired her to become an EES student a decade ago.
Last year Julia received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, which “recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees.” Her NSF supported dissertation research will focus on social-ecological questions about the sustainability of Maine’s food systems.
