Students have six (6) available concentrations to choose from:
Renewable Energy
The concentration in Renewable Energy Economics is designed for students who wish to pursue a focus on the environmental, economic, and policy oriented aspects of energy. Each student must complete 9 credits of required coursework and select 24 credit hours of professional electives related to renewable energy.
Agribusiness Management
The Agribusiness Management concentration will cultivate the business skills necessary to succeed in sales, marketing or management careers while developing applied tools to operate in small-business, finance, and food, natural resource-based or international industries. Foundation courses include economics as well as business administration, management, finance, and marketing.
International Economics
The International Economics concentration will position you for a career in tomorrow’s rapidly changing global economy. Students in this concentration meet a minimum foreign language requirement, and may engage in an international internship. Combining languages and other international related courses with this degree provides students with excellent international career opportunities.
Resource and Environmental Economics and Policy
The Resource and Environmental Economics and Policy concentration is designed for students interested in environmental and natural resource economics. The curriculum emphasizes the contributions of social sciences to the study of environmental problems. Students in this concentration are introduced to concepts from several disciplines that explain issues of environmental resource use, management, and protection.
Pre-Law Concentration
The Pre-law concentration provides training in the economic, legal and policy aspects of environmental management and regulation, with emphasis on legal and regulatory issues. The program is intended for those students considering law related careers and those interested in pursuing law school.
Recreation Business Management
The Recreation Business Management concentration is designed for students interested in outdoor recreation policy or managing an outdoor adventure business. Outdoor recreation is one of the world’s most diverse and fastest-growing industries. The concentration is affiliated with the University’s Maine Bound Outdoor Adventure Program, on of the most comprehensive university-based, adventure education programs in the nation.
Equine Business Management
The Equine Business Management concentration leads to an Economics degree with specialized training to excel in the equine industry. The concentration combines foundation and field courses in business with electives in animal science, equine management, and equitation.
