October 6, 2013: Shannon Brenner ’14 was honored by the Eastern Maine Peace and Justice Center with the Youth Hands of Peace Award at their annual Harvest Supper. As well as being a sociology major, Shannon has been a leader in the Maine Peace Action Committee as well as co-chair of the Student Women’s Association. August 10-13, 2013: Students Mark Brunton’13 and Molly Hunt ’15 attended the American Sociological Association’s annual meeting in New York City. More on their experiences soon!
March 29, 2013: Students Molly Hunt and Lizz Joy attended the Eastern Sociological Society’s Annual Conference in Boston March 21-24. Each presented posters on their research. Molly’s research is on alcohol abuse and young women. Lizz is working with Professor Huisman on the Maine Mother-Daughter Project and presented her research on using public sociology to foster dialogue and community engagement in Maine communities. Both students received CETA grants which have helped them with their research and attending the conference. We look forward to seeing their posters at the CUGR (Center for Undergraduate Research) Showcase on April 16th.
