Our Staff - Meet Our Staff

Kelly Beers: Assistant Director for First Year Experience and Second Year Experience

Kelly grew up on a dairy farm outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.  She received both of her degrees from The Ohio State University; her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Art, and her graduate degree in Higher Education Student Affairs.  Kelly moved to Maine for a grand adventure in 2007 because Maine seemed more fun than the cornfields of Ohio, and now it seems she may never leave. Kelly enjoys eating cookies right out of the oven, hiking, Scrabble and growing her own tomatoes.

Andi Bowen: Assistant Director and Community Coordinator

Andi is a native of Fryeburg, Maine. She received her undergraduate degrees in Foreign Languages (French) and Art History from Elmira College, and her graduate degree in Student Development in Higher Education from UMaine. She has a funny little dog named Jersey, is very good at bowling, and likes to go out “Jeep-venturing.” Her aspiration this year is to learn to pilot a hot air balloon.

Eric Carlson: Assistant Community Coordinator

Eric hails from Massachusetts, where he also completed his undergraduate degree in History from Bridgewater State University. As a graduate student at UMaine he will be pursuing his Master’s degree in Forestry. He enjoys the outdoors, hiking, kayaking, traveling (he lived in NZ for some time), reading, and he looks forward to learning both to snowshoe and to play badminton this year.

Everth Dzib: Academic Support Coordinator

Everth joined us in Maine from Ticul (Yucatan), Mexico. He graduated from UDLAP with a degree in International Relations and has a master’s degree in Public Administration from UMaine. As Everth is in his second year in the master’s/doctoral program in Higher Education, he is eager to help UMaine students in addressing their needs. In his free time, he loves to play tennis, read magazines, and travel around the U.S.

Jessica Greenwood: Community Coordinator

Jess is from the bustling town of Baraboo, Wisconsin, where she became well-versed in cow milking and corn shucking. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and earned her Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at Florida International University. She enjoys coffee, the Today Show, and trees of all varieties.

Katie Harder: Community Coordinator

Katie grew up in Waukesha, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for her undergraduate work majoring in Biology and English. She loved being a Resident Assistant so much that she decided she wanted to work at a college forever.  After graduation she went to Ball State University in Indiana for a Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. She enjoys everything outdoorsy Maine has to offer, running, traveling, and hanging out with her cat, Winston.

Ben Levelius: Assistant Community Coordinator

Ben is originally from the small town of Stratford, Wisconsin. Hee graduated from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse with a degree in Spanish and English as a Second Language Education (ESL).  Ben then moved to Yuzawa, Akita in the Tohoku Region of Japan and has spent the last two years teaching High School English, promoting internationalization in rural communities, and volunteering in areas devastated by the 2011 tsunami and earthquake. Ben is now at UMaine to pursue his graduate degree in Global Policy. When he is not studying or working with students, he likes to hike, bike, camp, travel, and read.

Hannah Moore: Assistant Community Coordinator

Hannah is originially from southern Connecticut, but now lives in Hawaii. She graduated from UMaine with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders in May 2012, and is now a graduate student studying Student Development in Higher Education. She is a member of the women’s club rugby team, loves pretending that she knows how to cook, and enjoys reading and hiking.

Dan Neumann: Community Coordinator

Dan is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. His undergraduate degree is in civil engineering from Case Western Reserve University, where he also obtained a M.S. in engineering in 2009. This spring he also completed a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel at Kent State University in Ohio. Dan enjoys staying current with world events, kayaking, and recently has developed an interest in photography.

Nef Njonjo: Academic Support Coordinator

Nef is originally from Eastern Africa, Kenya but did her undergraduate work in Biology with a Human Biology Emphasis at Boise State University (home of the “smurf turf”). She is now getting her Master’s degree here are UMaine in Student Development in Higher Education. An interesting fun fact is that Nef’s full name (Nephatiti) is a misspelled form of Nefertiti. She likes the outdoors and will gladly take on any challenge. She also enjoys hiking, biking, boating, and running (though she does not do it as well as her country men).

Shelly Shore: Assistant Community Coordinator

Shelly grew up right between Boston, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island. She attended Brandeis University for her undergraduate work and received her undergraduate degree in Sociology, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Creative Writing. She also performed musical theater a cappella and wrote a weekly column for the student newspaper. Shelly is currently pursuing her graduate degree in Social Work here at UMaine. Her hobbies include Disney singalongs, baking, and spontaneous dance parties.

Shane Smith: Assistant Community Coordinator

Shane completed his undergraduate work here at UMaine in Secondary Education and also served as a UMaine Resident Assistant for three semesters. Coming into graduate school, he will be striving to obtain his Master’s degree in his focus area of Social Studies Education. Shane is originally from Augusta, Maine and enjoys spending time with friends, family, and close colleagues. He is also very competitive and loves all Boston sports.
