Mailing Services provides all the basic services of the United States Postal Service, with the exception of Money Order and COD service, to faculty and staff of the University of Maine. Campus departments may send bulk mailings using the University of Maine mailing permit, First Class and non-profit bulk mailings, Express Mail (by Noon, Monday through Friday), insured and certified mail with return receipt request.
Outgoing U.S. mail is scheduled to depart campus at 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Mail received from University departments prior to 3:30 p.m. will be sent on this transport.
UPS and FedEx
The daily UPS and FedEx pick-up at Mailing Services is scheduled between 3-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Departments with parcels to ship should deliver them to the Mail Room with all necessary paperwork prior to 3 p.m.
Campus departments may also set up departmental accounts directly with FedEx by visiting the FedEx Web site. For more information, contact Celeste Prevost, 581.2692, at Purchasing.
CampusShip with UPS
Departments may participate in the UPS CampusShip contract, negotiated through the Purchasing Department to help lower shipping costs. The Web-based shipping system allows departments to set up accounts, using a default chartfield and a designated contact person for weekly billing. The Cubby at Memorial Union: U.S. Postal Substation and More
The Cubby is the on-campus U.S. postal substation located in the lower level of Memorial Union to meet the personal mailing needs of all students as well as University of Maine employees. This U.S. postal substation offers all USPS services including selling stamps, sending registered, certified, priority, and foreign mail. In addition to U.S. postal services, The Cubby also offers other professional services such as printing, copying, faxing and CD & DVD duplicating. Resident students will also pick up any oversized packages or parcels shipped to them here. Students will receive an email on their maine.edu account to pick up their package. The student will need their MaineCard ID or driver’s license to receive their package at the Cubby.
Inter-departmental campus mail service is provided daily to all buildings on campus. Campus mail is delivered to a central mail room in each building on campus. All outgoing campus and U.S. Mail may be deposited in the central mail room of each building for daily pick up. Check with your building manager to learn details about sorting and delivery of mail to individual departments within each building.
