The President’s Cabinet - Julie Hopwood
Julie Hopwood has served as the Senior Advisor to the University of Maine President since August 2011.
A native of Idaho and raised in California’s Central Valley, Hopwood studied history and political science as an undergraduate at Boise State University. She received the Juris Doctor degree from the University of Idaho College of Law and the Master of Science Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the Syracuse University S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication. She began her academic administrative career as Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas advancing to the position of Assistant to the Provost for Policy and Communication at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. During this period she also earned the Master of Public Administration degree before accepting her current position at the University of Maine.
Hopwood has developed a professional expertise that effectively integrates a unique educational foundation in law, communication, public administration and policy with higher education administration. Her particular experience in strategic planning through institutional policy development, shared governance, faculty and student welfare, academic integrity, research and economic development have contributed to transformative institutional growth and development at each academic institution.
