Overall Economic Impact of the University for the State of Maine

  • UMaine’s day-to-day operations and student and visitor spending contribute $780.9 million in total output (i.e., sales revenue) to the Maine economy, and support 9,951 full- and part-time jobs that provide $338.4 million in income to Maine workers (including multiplier effects) (2012).
  • Aggregate lifetime earnings payoff related to the degrees earned by a single graduating class at UMaine is $590.9 million of additional income to the Maine economy (2012).
  • Revenues from University of Maine Department of Industrial Cooperation FY14 projects were $4,371,999, an increase of $215,815 in revenue over last fiscal year. Of the total revenue, 45 percent ($1,948,777) came from Maine companies, and 55 percent ($2,423,222) came from out-of-state companies. The number of industrial projects increased from 407 in FY13 to 500 in FY14.
