DOVER-FOXCROFT, ME— Garden Weeds Identification and Management is the next program in the You Can series. It will be held Wednesday, November 7th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Piscataquis County Extension Office in Dover-Foxcroft. Even though times are tough, You Can sustain your family. The Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension have put together a series of workshops that will give you the skills to get started in self-sufficiency.
Home gardeners can get very discouraged when their flower and vegetable gardens are invaded by weeds. Weeds can crowd out our desirable plants by robbing the nutrients and water away from our crop plants. This class will help you identify common garden weeds, understand their growth habits and learn some techniques to reduce weed pressure in both flower and vegetable gardens.
For over thirty years Donna Coffin has been the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Educator for Piscataquis County. Her area of expertise includes sustainable agriculture, home horticulture and home energy. She received her Master of Science degree from the University of Maine in Animal Science in the area of animal nutrition. For over 30 years she has taught home gardeners how to have more successful gardens.
