Maine Maple Sugaring Saturday

The afternoon begins with the video, "The Maple Sugaring Story" at the Page Farm and Home Museum. Grade pre-K-5 children can participate in learning activities, play games and hear stories about one of Maine's oldest traditions and seasonal business enterprises. Come visit us in the Folklife Area of the American Folk Festival at the Bangor Waterfront August 27th and 28th, where we will be exploring Maine's rich fiber history from hand spinning wool, flax, and silk fibers in the 1800s, to the industrialization of Maine's textile mills.   Come explore a variety of fiber processing artifacts and learn more about Maine's fiber history! Join us Saturday, September 10th from 10:00AM-3:00PM at the Hampden Historical Society as we showcase children's toys and games from 1865-1940.  Children will also have the opportunity to try their hand at winning old-fashioned candies by guessing the name and function of a Museum "what's-it"! The Hampden Historical Society will also host a myriad of fun and engaging activities, from candle-dipping to butter churning. Admission is free, and children are encouraged to attend.

Maine National History Day

April 8, 2017

Maine National History Day (NHD) is an annual event for teachers and students in grades 6-12 that promotes critical thinking skills through project-based learning.  The 2017 contest theme is “Taking A Stand in History.” The next state contest will be hosted at the University of Maine campus in Orono on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Top award winners in the state contest qualify for the national contest in Washington, DC, in June.
