Oxford County Master Gardener Volunteers - Community Projects
Maine Harvest for Hunger Gardens
Oxford County Master Gardener Volunteers plan, plant, maintain, and harvest two 3/4 acres gardens located in Rumford and South Paris, Maine. All of the harvest is donated to people with limited access to fresh produce via the Maine Harvest for Hunger program. Last year, over 5,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables were harvested from the two gardens.
Maine Veterans Home Garden, South Paris
This on-site vegetable garden provides fresh vegetables for the veterans as well as offering an opportunity for the veterans to interact with Master Gardener Volunteers and try their hand at growing a tomato or two.
Program links Master Gardeners (Garden Angels) with recipients who are usually elderly persons with physical or mental and financial limitations who love to garden but need a friend/helping hand/Garden Angel to help them be able to continue gardening. Please note a background check will be required to participate in this program.
Teach workshops on various gardening topics to pubic groups
