Pre-Award - Identify Funding

Sources of funding can be found in various sectors including federal and state agencies, private foundations and not-for-profit organizations, special interest groups and corporate, industry and business organizations. Sponsor Requests for Proposals generally spell out their research focus and priorities so when conducting your funding search, be sure your research interests match theirs.

Looking for funding? Start your search using PIVOT (formerly Community of Science), a comprehensive funding resource available to the UMaine community courtesy of Fogler Library. Pivot pinpoints funding opportunities based on an investigator’s unique profile, with searches that are:

The Limited Competitions Registry (Registry), is a database of active RFP’s for limited competitions (RFP’s for which the University may submit only a certain number of proposals).  Investigators wishing to be considered for a limited competition must sign up through PARS via the Registry. Want to gain insight on the grant review and funding process? In March 2011, the Research and Scholarship Committee of the Faculty Senate, together with the Office of the VP for Research, ORSP, and CETA, held a grant funding forum, “Shared Wisdom of UM Faculty for Success in Grant Funding: What Works” which provided an opportunity for faculty to share their collective experience and wisdom on how we as a University can improve our success in grant funding.  Both veteran and junior faculty from campus participated in the panel presentations and roundtable discussions.
