Onward Courses, Labs and Degree Credit - First-Year Onward Student Courses and Schedules

First-year Onward student schedules and course selection vary depending on number of factors, as the chart below explains. Students have classes Monday through Friday. Some classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and last 50 minutes. Orientation Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 60 minutes, while science classes and labs meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays and last 75 minutes.  In general, most first-year Onward students take two English classes, and one Science, one Mathematics and one Orientation class each semester.

Fall Courses Spring Courses
English
ONE 12 Composition
All first-year Onward students take this class. It usually meets on Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

ONR 12 Reading
All first-year Onward students take this class. It usually meets on Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

ENG 101 (Onward)
Students who do not earn ENG 101 transfer credits in the fall will take this course. See Degree Credits for information about testing out of ENG 101.

and

ENG 131 Nature of Story
All first-year Onward students take this class. It usually meets on Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

Science
ONS 11 Biology
All first-year Onward students take this class. It usually meets on Tuesday-Thursday and includes a Lab. See Degree Credits for information about earning University credit for BIO 100.
ONS 13 Zoology
Students who do not plan to major in a science program generally take Onward Zoology. It usually meets on Tuesday-Thursday and includes a Lab. See Degree Credits for information about earning University credit for BIO 222 & 223.

ONS 12 Chemistry
Students who plan to major in a science program generally take Onward Chemistry. It usually meets on Tuesday-Thursday.

or

Students can waive ONS 12 Chemistry by passing the Chemistry Final Exam in the fall. They can take another University science course in the spring for 3-4 credits with advisor approval. See Degree Credits for information about waiving Chemistry and taking other University science courses.

Mathematics
ONM 11 Pre-Algebra
Results of the mathematics placement test taken during the application process determine which students will be enrolled in ONM 11. It usually meets on Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

ONM 12 Introductory Algebra
Results of the mathematics placement test taken during the application process determine which students will be enrolled in ONM 12. It usually meets on Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

or

MAT 111 College Algebra (Onward)
Results of the mathematics placement test taken during the application process determine which students will be enrolled in MAT 111. It usually meets on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. See Degree Credits for information earning credit for MAT 111.

ONM 12 Introductory Algebra
This is the course that students who pass ONM 11 in the fall semester will take in the spring. It usually meets on Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

or

MAT 111 College Algebra (Onward)
This is the course that students who pass ONM 12 in the fall semester will take in the spring. It usually meets on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. See Degree Credits for information earning credit for MAT 111.

or

Students who pass MAT 111 in the fall semester may take another University mathematics course, such as MAT 232 Principles of Statistical Inference.

Orientation
ONO 11 Orientation
All first-year Onward students take this class. It usually meets on Tuesday-Thursday.
ONO 100 Orientation
All first-year Onward students take this class. It usually meets on Tuesday-Thursday. See Degree Credits for information earning credit for ONO 100.

Onward News

2015 Onward Information Sessions

Dates will be posted in Fall 2014. In the Onward Information Sessions, Onward participants will share their personal experiences as students attending the University of Maine in the Onward Program. Staff will be available to answer questions about financial aid, coursework, work load, and more.Light refreshments will be served. All sessions take place in 125 East Annex on the University of Maine campus. A tour of our facility is included. Reservations are not needed, but are welcome. Call 581-2320 for more information.


Onward 1st year student helps keep veterans warm
