How many University credits can students earn in their first year in Onward? It depends on a number of factors. The chart below explains:

| Composition | ONE 12 Students who earn an A in ONE 12 and ONR 12 and receive a positive review of their portfolios can earn 3 “transfer credits” for ENG 101 (no grade for ENG 101). |
ENG 101 (Onward) Students who successfully complete Onward ENG 101 will earn 3 degree credits. |
| Reading | ONR 12 Students can take CLEP Exam to earn 3 credits for HTY 103. See CLEP Exam page for more information. |
Students who earn the 3 transfer credits for ENG101 in the Fall will not have to take ENG 101 in the spring. They may choose to take up to 6 credits in University courses outside Onward in English or Humanities. |
| Biology & Zoology | ONS 11 (Biology) Students can earn 4 “credits by examination” by successfully completing the BIO 100 final exam at end of the Onward course. |
ONS 14 (Zoology) Students can earn 4 “credits by examination” for successful completion of ONS 11 Biology and ONS 14 Zoology (C or higher) and successful completion of the final exam for BIO 222. |
| Chemistry | ONS 12 (Chemistry) Students can waive ONS 12 Chemistry by passing the Chemistry Final in the fall. Those who can waive ONS 12 can take 3-4 credits of University science courses outside Onward with advisor approval. |
