OIRA Mission

The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) exists to support the university community in the areas of planning, assessment, and decision-making by providing timely, accurate, and meaningful information to advance the university mission and values.

OIRA Primary Activities & Services

Institutional Research

Reporting and Surveys: Comply with the reporting requirements of external agencies, prepare standard institutional reports, and respond to ad hoc requests for institutional information. Administer student surveys, such as the New Student Survey, and Life After UMaine.

Research, Planning, and Evaluation: Collect, maintain, and analyze information that informs decision- and policy-making at the University of Maine, as well as conduct research on questions of fundamental importance to the institution and external stakeholders.

Assessment

Provide support for programmatic and general education assessment activities and coordinate assessment reporting.

Accreditation

Collect and maintain institutional data required by external accrediting agencies. Assist in the preparation of accreditation documents for the New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE) and other external accrediting agencies.

Faculty Services

Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET): Administer student evaluations of teaching, manage data, and disseminate results to departments and faculty.

Exam Processing: Process all scantron exams and report scores to instructors.
