Songbird Superhighway - AdrienneSmilesR-401×600

Image Description: University of Maine graduate student Adrienne Leppold is one of the country’s foremost bird banders. During the fall and spring migration seasons, she lives on Metinic Island off the Maine coast, conducting research there as part of the Northeast Regional Migration Monitoring Network. Through her research, supported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge, Leppold made the important discovery that the island is a major flyway for songbirds.
