Meeting Minutes - November 7, 2007

10AM Walker Room, Memorial Union

Kathleen O’Connell, President
Barbara Denaro, Vice President
Lisa Chapman, Secretary/Treasurer
Barbara Smith, Staff Advisor

1. Becoming Official
We discussed the steps to becoming an official student organization. Kat will be filling out the final approval form and the yearly update form. Kat and Barb Denaro will meet with Matt Bennet, the Vice President for Student Organizations on Wed., Nov. 14 at 1:15PM to hand these in and discuss any issues with him. We should then get on the docket for the following Wednesday’s Student Government assembly. Lisa volunteered to represent us at that assembly.
2. Finances
We discussed the estimated finances of the organization with regard to the types of things we’d like to sponsor. Here are our ideas:
Graduation Party for Nontraditional Students: The CNTSP holds a graduation party for nontrads the last week of school. It would be good if we could cosponsor that event. Also, a graduation breakfast for May graduates would also be nice.
Put an ad in the Maine Campus congratulating nontrad graduates, be sure to include some names to personalize it, and we’d like to have a number, so we can say something like: Congratulations to the following nontraditional students who are graduating this fall: John Smythe, Jerry Doe, and the 250 plus other nontraditional students who have earned their degrees.
Having a promotional item for the association: mugs, t-shirts, cords for graduates. We liked the idea of handing out silver and blue cords at the graduation parties so nontrads can wear them with their cap and gown. Barbara Denaro is going to look into how much that would cost. If we can manage it timewise, we’ll request funds for this item and to cosponsor the graduation party this fall as soon as we are official.

(All nontraditional students are members of the NSA. In order to receive notice of events and copies of minutes, students must provide their e-mail address to the NSA. You are receiving this e-mail because you provided us with your e-mail address. If you no longer wish to receive mailings from the NSA, please reply to me, Kathleen OConnell on FirstClass and I will remove your name from our list.)
