Rubin Comments in Vehicle Efficiency Standards Article

Comments from University of Maine professor of resource economics Jonathan Rubin were included in a Massachusetts Institute of Technology news article about an MIT study on new government standards to improve motor vehicle efficiency. The researchers said that while recent efficiency requirements may save consumers money and cut carbon emissions, an “economy-wide” carbon tax might provide more consumer incentive to buy more efficient vehicles. Rubin, who chairs the Transportation Energy Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), said the research makes an important science-based contribution to policymaking.
