Astumian Wins International Physics Award

The California-based Foresight Institute, a think tank and public interest organization focused on transformative future technologies, has awarded University of Maine professor of physics Raymond Dean Astumian the 2011 Feynman Prize for Theory. Astumian is being honored for his contributions to the understanding of Brownian motion and its role in powering molecular motors and other functional mechanisms at the atomic scale.
