Meet Our Staff

Graduate Assistant

Brent Rice is a Kinesiology Major from Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated in May of 2012  as a student athlete (football). Brent is now a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.

Brandon is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Maine as an undergraduate student, playing Football & studying Secondary Education. Currently Brandon is a Graduate Assistant studying Counselor Education & working as an adjunct instructor in the College of Education.

Serena is a 4th year student from Caribou, Maine and is a Animal Science major. At the multicultural center she is involved in African Student Association, Asian Student Association, and actively volunteers to help with any of the other groups at the center. The multicultural center has helped her meet new people and get more involved with activities around campus.

Although Hawa was originally born in Mogadishu Somalia, she grew up in Portland, Maine. As a junior at University of Maine she is pursuing a major in Biology with aspirations to attend Dental school when she graduates in 2014. She is involved in the Black Student Union, Muslim Student Association and also the African Student Association. The Office of Multicultural Programs not only helped Hawa with her communication and leadership skills but it has introduced her to many resources and people around campus that are very beneficial.

Cynthia is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She moved to the United States when she was four years old to the City of Portland, Maine. She transferred to University of Maine in the beginning of fall of 2011, and is a Psychology major.  She is an energetic, well-organized  member of our team and is involved in African Student Association (AfSA) and Black Student Union (BSU).

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Elie migrated with his family to the United States where he grew up in the city of Decatur, in Georgia.  He attended elementary school- high school there and moved to Portland, Maine during his senior year, where he graduated with honors. Now attending the University of Maine, he is a 3rd year political science student. He is currently the Vice President of the Black Student Union, and works at the Multicultural Center.

Nimo Mohamed is a Somali student, third year nursing major at the University of Maine. Her family migrated to Auburn, Maine where she completed her high school education. She enthusiastically got engaged in college at the University of Maine, and joined the team at the multicultural center. In addition to this involvement Nimo is the secretary in the African Student Association (AfSA). She is also involved with the Black Student Union (BSU) and the Muslim Student Association (MSA).

Yvane – Ladouce Ingabire is originally from Burundi. Three years ago she moved to Portland, Maine together with her family. Now she’s a second year student with a desire to pursue Business Management as a major. While in Portland, she spent time showing the Burundian culture through dances in festivals and other events. At the University of Maine, she is a part of the Resident on Campus (ROC) program as she is the representative of York Hall for the year of 2012-2013. Also, she is involved in the International Student Association as well as the Latin American Student Association (LASO). Working at the office of Multicultural student Affairs has helped her to be involved in different activities around the campus and also to get to meet new people from different countries and learn about different cultures. Yvane is a friendly person and she likes making a difference among people of her age.

Muna is a third year, Political Science at the University of Maine. Muna has lived in Portland, Maine for the majority of her life but was born in Kenya. She is currently involved in the Black Student Union and AFSA. Since she has been part of the Multicultural Center, it has enabled her to work with the University in being aware of diversity and has helped her develop long term skills.

Diana is a first year Nursing major from Brockton, Massachusetts. Her family is originally from Nigeria.  She is a secretary of the Black Student Union and a member of the Event Staff and the Orono Student Nurses’ Association. On her spare time she likes to play basketball at the Recreation Center. The Multicultural Center has helped her to meet new people and make new friends.

Teesha Kendrick was born in Moultrie, Georgia but moved with her family to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She is a freshman and is a part of the Explorations Program but next semester she will be going into Bioengineering. She is a very positive spirited person and puts her all into everything that she does. She is a part of the Black Student Union (BSU), Black Bear Mentors, and Strong Body, Strong Mind Inc.

Abdullahi Kalib was born in Atlanta, Georgia but moved with his family to Auburn, Maine at the age of eight. He is a freshman and is a pre-business major. At the multicultural center he is involved in the Muslim Students Association. In his spare time he likes to work out and play basketball at the recreation center. He enjoys listening to music and hanging out with his friends.
