Maine Summer Transportation Institute held at UMaine

by WABI-TV5 News Desk – July 19th 2010 10:52pm

It’s never too early to try to figure out what you want to do when you grow up. Some middle school students in the Bangor Area have a chance this summer to check out careers in the field of engineering and transportation.

20 students are participating in the Maine Summer Transportation Institute at the University of Maine.

The program focuses on civil engineering — and takes students on a variety of field trips that introduce them to careers involving the four modes of transportation.

They also learn about alternative fuels, Construction materials, and computer aided design.

It’s not all work though — the students get to do team building activities and get to use the recreation facilities at UMaine.

Some say the experience has opened their eyes to the possibility of a career in the field.
