Welcome to Modern Languages and Classics

Important announcement to students, faculty, alums, and supporters of language study

Due to the current difficult fiscal situation and resultant dwindling resources, the B.A. programs in German and Latin will soon be eliminated. Admissions to the current B.A. in Modern Languages, which includes German and either French or Spanish, have also been suspended.  The B.A. programs in French, Spanish, and Romance Languages are not affected by the suspensions.

Please note that the minors in German and Latin have also been suspended. Beginning, intermediate and advanced Latin courses and beginning and intermediate German courses will continue to be available. We welcome your enrollment in these languages, and thank you for your continued support of language study at UMaine.
