Mitchell Center and Maine’s Sustainability Solutions Initiative, the symposium will include speakers from the US Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, the US Forest Service, the Maine Forest Service, the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, as well as Wabanaki tribal resource gatherers who rely on Brown Ash trees for the art and tradition of basket weaving that has been handed down from one generation to the next. http://www.mainecola.org/ Location: Colby College, Mayflower Hill, Waterville, Maine

Description: On March 28th of this year, New Hampshire reported the discovery of the Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis) (EAB) in the state, making it the 19th state in the U.S. to be infected. EAB is an invasive beetle that attacks and kills ash trees. Now on the doorstep of Maine, the University of Maine, in collaboration with the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance (MIBA), will host this half day symposium on the EAB and what can be done to slow its spread.
