Call for Synthesis Research Proposals: Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services
The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC), a nationally-recognized University of Maryland research center, has announced available funding for research projects that bring together data, ideas, theories, or models to address critical socio-environmental questions at the interface of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Switzer Environmental Fellowships
The Robert and Patricia Switzer Foundation gives Fellowships to top graduate students in New England who demonstrate the potential for leadership in their field, and who are committed to a career in environmental improvement. The Fellowship provides a one-year $15,000 cash award, as well as access to other Switzer grant programs and career support, and membership in the Switzer Fellowship Network. Application deadline: January 10, 2014.
In 2014, the Udall Foundation expects to award 50 scholarships of up to $5000 and 50 honorable mentions to sophomore and junior level college students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care. Application deadline: December 20, 2013.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants in the Directorate for Biological Sciences Grant
NSF awards Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants in selected areas of the biological sciences. These grants provide partial support of doctoral dissertation research for improvement beyond the already existing project. Allowed are costs for doctoral candidates to participate in scientific meetings, to conduct research in specialized facilities or field settings, and to expand an existing body of dissertation research.
