Education & Outreach - Educational Programs

This one-day event brings together almost 700 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and their teachers to learn about Maine’s water resources.

This student-scientist project affords an opportunity to increase local participation and understanding of regional issues through a teacher-directed public summary of their research results.

The Mitchell Center has partnered with Acadia Partners and several other organizations to connect working scientists with high school teachers to provide the teachers with training in summer institutes and with ongoing support during the school year so that they can improve their ability to support inquiry-based, student-directed field research. Examples of some projects can be found on the SERC Institute Web site.

This program takes research issues and topics of interest to National Parks out to teachers and schools across Maine, engaging students in useful citizen science research while providing them with enriched science education.
