What problem/s are you working to solve?
We are working to develop a framework for the responsible development of tidal power in Maine and beyond. This model includes strategies for effectively integrating scientific research in decision making and engaging communities and other stakeholders in research and decision making about tidal power development.
What progress are you making toward solutions?
We have a better understanding of community and stakeholder concerns about tidal power, and we are integrating what we have learned from stakeholders throughout our research.
How could your findings contribute to a more sustainable future in Maine and beyond?
Our findings suggest that including stakeholders in research needed for decision making related to sustainable development can be extremely valuable, but at the same time can be quite challenging.
Why did you decide to join SSI?
SSI offers a great opportunity for us to do cutting-edge research that is academically exciting and at the end of the day is about solving real problems that will help real people.
What’s the best part about collaborating on SSI research projects?
Working together and making progress on difficult problems that are critical to Maine’s future.
Where’s your favorite place in Maine?
The very end of the Rockland Breakwater at sunset
What’s your ultimate Maine experience?
Kayaking early in the morning, listening to the foghorns (and keeping very close to shore).
Mud season survival strategy?
Mud season? – I never noticed.
What sustains you?
Family and friends, both near and far.
