Please join our one-day bus trip to
Portland on Saturday, April 2

 The UMaine Humanities Center and the English Department are co-sponsoring a full-day bus trip to Portland that is open to all UMaine students and the general public. We will have two tours of collections at the Osher Map Library and then attend a public lecture and view William Shakespeare’s First Folio (1623) at the Portland Public Library.

Schedule for Saturday, April 2

8:45 a.m. Bus departs from Collins Center for the Arts (CCA) parking lot at UMaine
11:00 a.m. Arrive Osher Map Library, Portland, for two guided tours:

  • New “Golden Age of American Pictorial Maps” exhibit that he curated in the Gallery.
  • Osher staff will share Shakespeare-era maps in the Reading Room.

1:00 p.m. Bus takes us downtown to the Portland Public Library (PPL) for a late-lunch and exploring on our own.
3:00 p.m. Reassemble at PPL for a public lecture by Dick Brucher (UMaine Professor), “Learning from the First Folio” in the Rines Auditorium. Tour the Shakespeare First Folio exhibit before or after the lecture.
5:00 p.m. Bus departs from PPL.
7:00 p.m. Approximate return to CCA at UMaine.

Space on our luxury coach is limited, so please reserve your spot in advance. The subsidized cost for UMaine students $10  and for the general public $20. Cash or checks accepted (with checks made out to the “University of Maine” with your department name in the memo line).
