Abstract

This presentation provides a summary of the theoretical and experimental research on magnetorheological fluid-elastomer composites (MRFEC) as smart electromagnetically controllable sensors and actuators. The main focus was the applications of magnetorheological fluid-elastomer composites (MRFEC) in flow regulation and control particularly for medical purposes. A series of MRFEC gates have been produced and tested. Two types of flow channels have been designed and fabricated. Several experiments were conducted to determine flow control properties of the MRFEC Gates. A comprehensive summary of the results will be presented and possible medical or industrial applications will be discussed in this presentation along with a number of video demonstration of the MRFEC gates.
