Pressure sensitive adhesives ( PSA ) represent a special class of viscoelastic polymers. They are capable of forming a strong adhesive bond with various substrates under application of a slight external pressure over a short time interval (1-2 seconds). A new class of adhesive hydrogels has been offered, which shares the properties of both pressure sensitive adhesives and bioadhesives. Varying the composition of hydrophobic and hydrophilic components in the matrix can easily provide the appropriate combination of adhesive and water absorption properties required for transdermal applications in drug delivery systems.
