The Crest Logo - Flexibility

A variety of logos are available to fit different needs. The number of colors being used for a job and production considerations will dictate which logo is appropriate.

Two colors: PMS 289 and PMS 292

The crest logo is also available in one-color versions:

In printing terms, when the paper color is light and the ink around the logo is dark, this is called a dropout. The example on the left is a dropout. Note that the logo wasn’t simply reversed to negative form. An outline around the crest has been added and the sail shapes remain white. Here is an example of an incorrect reverse. Note the difference in the crest. The dark flags inside the crest are not acceptable.

THE CREST LOGO ON A DARK BACKGROUND

On a dark background, there is an outline around the crest and the sail shapes remain white.

USING THE WORDMARK WITHOUT THE UNIVERSITY CREST

The wordmark may be used without the crest. It must always be reproduced in a single color, preferably PMS 289, PMS 292, black or white.

‘MAINE’ CREST

The ‘’MAINE’ crest was developed as an abbreviated version of the primary logo. It has been used for lapel pins and other special projects. It is especially useful when horizontal space is limited. If the crest needs to stand alone, the MAINE crest must be used instead of the 1865 crest. Examples of color variations and the outline version for dark backgrounds are shown below.
