Science Around ME

science around meDiscover the science that is all around you!

A partnership of the Maine Writing Project and Maine Discovery Museum.

Science Around ME helps users notice and reveal the local science that is largely in plain sight but, at times, out of mind. The app encourages interactive writing and online publishing about the science that is all around us.

Upload. Learn. Write. Get Connected.

Science Around ME is now available in both the iTunes App Store and on Google Play.

Science Around ME was developed to help users interact with science in its natural setting. At each Maine location, the app introduces science information and invites visitors to respond in writing and publish to a wide, online audience. Our first location at the Penobscot riverfront features the science of local birds and fish, the ongoing challenge to maintain water quality, and the river’s logging history.

Science Around ME is part of the Maine Intersections partnership, a collaboration between the Maine Writing Project and Maine Discovery Museum to encourage science and literacy exploration for youth, educators, and the community at large.

What is Intersections? A national network of partnerships between National Writing Project (NWP) sites and Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) members. The Maine Writing Project and Maine Discovery Museum join sites in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

What do Intersections partnerships do? Intersections teams develop programs at the intersection of science and literacy learning…assess and promote promising practices to strengthen science literacy learning in formal and informal settings…and share what they learn nationally through NWP and ASTC.

How is Intersections funded?
