View Your Updated Student Bill

To view your updated student bill on MaineStreet, go to Student Self-Service > Student Center. In the Finances section of Student Center, click the double arrow next to Account Activity. Click View All to see all transactions.

Payment Due on Student Accounts

If you have a balance due to the University, you must make payment arrangements now. Please review your account on MaineStreet Self-Service. If you have a balance due that is not covered by anticipated aid, or other Anticipated Resources please remit payment by one of the following options:

To enter any credit not shown on your student bill, you must enter your Anticipated Resources by logging into MaineStreet and navigating to Student Self-Service > StudentCenter > Self Service > Campus Finances > Anticipated Resources.  For detailed instructions on how to enter your Anticipated Resources please go to:

Spring 2014 Billing Information

When will I receive a bill and when will the bill be due?

Bills will be mailed directly to students beginning in Early December 2013. For students who have registered for classes for the Spring 2014 semester before December 9th, 2013, your bill will be due January 5th, 2014. For students who register for classes on or after December 9th, 2013, the due date will appear on your initial bill. For the Spring 2014 classes, you will be sent one paper bill and you will also be able to view a copy of your initial bill online. After the initial semester paper bill is sent, you will be sent periodic updates regarding your financial status via email to your address. The email will provide you with a link to the MaineStreet portal and will also contain instructions on how to pay any balance due or receive a credit refund. To view your student account details, please log into the MaineStreet portal: click the Student Self-Service link, click the Student Center link, and then under the Finances section, click on the double arrows next to Account Activity.

How can I view or pay my bill online or authorize others to pay for me?

Online payments (electronic check or credit card) can be made through your MaineStreet Student Center by accessing TouchNet®’s Bill + Payment Suite.  For more information on making an online payment go to By accessing TouchNet®’s Bill + Payment Suite you also can view your current account balance and unbilled account activity, view your initial bill, and authorize parents, family members and others to make payments on your behalf. To access TouchNet®’s Bill+Payment Suite through MaineStreet, click on the Details/Bill/Pay link under the finances section on your Student Center. This will take you to your account summary page. On the account summary page, click on the green “View Bill/Payment Options” button. On the next page, click on the yellow Access TouchNet® Bill+Payment button.  To learn how to authorize other(s) to have access to your account and make a payment on your behalf, go to

What types of charges may appear on my bill?

In addition to tuition and fees the following charges may appear on your student bill: room and board, library fines, parking tickets, UMaine health insurance and other miscellaneous charges.

How do I avoid a late fee by filling out the anticipated resources screen?

If there are funds that have not yet been applied to your bill, you must enter information about those funds on the Anticipated Resources page in Self Service on MaineStreet before the due date.  For more information on how to enter your Anticipated Resources please go to 

Examples of information that might be entered in this area because the funds are not yet showing on your bill include: outside scholarships, waivers or a graduate assistantship, installment plans that have been completed but are not showing on the bill, or payments that are being made by your employer or another agency. Charges that will be covered by the Anticipated Resources will be deferred but only if the anticipated funds are listed in Anticipated Resources. Please pay any remaining portion of the bill that will not be covered by funds listed in Anticipated Resources by the due date on the bill. Failure to provide this information and pay any remaining balance will result in a $100.00 late payment fee.

How can I receive a refund if I have a credit balance on my student account?

If you have a credit balance on your student account for the upcoming term and it is appropriate for that credit to be refunded to you the student then the fastest way to receive your refund is by direct deposit. For information on how to sign up for direct deposit please go to  If you have not asked to have your credit balance held on your account or signed up for direct deposit, a refund check will be mailed to the address we have on file starting the Tuesday before classes begin. If you have requested to have  your refund held on your account you may pick up a refund check in the Bursar’s office starting the Tuesday before classes begin..

Why do I need to complete the Student Authorization page on MaineStreet?

On the Student Authorization page you are given the opportunity to make two very important choices:

  1. Grant  permission for your Federal Financial Aid to pay all the charges on your account. We must have your permission if you would like us to apply your Federal Financial Aid to any charges other than tuition, fees, and room & board within the same aid year. Granting permission can make your account easier to manage.
  2. Authorize us to hold a credit balance on your account for future charges. Financial aid resulting in a credit balance on your account will be automatically refunded to you unless you request that it be held to apply to future charges.

Sign Your Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note


For 2013-2014


If it is your first time borrowing a Direct Stafford Loan, you must sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the 2013-2014 academic year in order to receive your Stafford Loan Funds.  You DO NOT have to wait until your loan has processed to complete this step.

If you are a returning student and have previously borrowed Direct Stafford Loans you do NOT have to complete a new MPN.

To complete your Federal Direct Stafford Loan MPN, go to


All Federal Perkins Loan borrowers must sign a new Master Promissory Note every year in order to receive Perkins Loan funds.

To sign your Perkins MPN: Go to your Student Center on MaineStreet, click on View Financial Aid, and select the 2014 aid year.  To access the Perkins Loan MPN, click on Sign Promissory Note link under Loan Details.


If your parent has been approved for a Federal Direct PLUS Loan for the 2013-2014 academic year, your parent MUST sign a Master Promissory Note within 90 days of the loan’s credit approval in order for you to receive these loan funds.

If your parent has been approved for the Federal Direct PLUS loan, but no longer wishes to borrow the loan, please have them send a signed request to our office.

Check Your FAFSA Status

The Office of Student Financial Aid began loading 2013 – 2014 FAFSAs in January.  To determine  whether your FAFSA has been received by UMaine, login to your Student Self-Service page in MaineStreet.  You will find the FAFSA Status link under the Finances section of your Student Center.  Verify we have received your 2013-2014 FAFSA.  The date listed is not the date you filed the FAFSA, but the date we transferred your FAFSA  information into MaineStreet.  If you have recently filed and the receipt of your FAFSA does not appear within 7 business days, please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid.

We anticipate accessing 2014-2015 FAFSAs in mid January 2014.

End of Semester Loan Information for Fall Only Loans


For Fall 2013

Federal Direct Stafford Loans – All students wishing to borrow fall semester Federal Direct Stafford Loans, must accept these loans by Wednesday, December 18th, so they can be processed by the end of the semester.  Students who have not completed MPNs or Entrance Counseling for fall only loans must complete these by Friday, December 20th at

Federal Direct PLUS Loans – All fall semester PLUS Loan applications must be received by the Office of Student Financial Aid by Wednesday, December 18th to allow adequate processing time.

Alternative Loans -  In order for us to certify fall semester alternative loans, all certification requests must be received by the Office of Student Financial Aid by Friday, December 20th.

Course Listings Available

Course listings for Spring 2011 are now available in MaineStreet.

Anticipated Financial Aid and Anticipated Resources

To view anticipated financial aid in MaineStreet, go to Student Self-Service > Student Center. In the Finances section of Student Center, click on Account Inquiry. You will see a summary of your account, including outstanding charges and deposits, pending financial aid and the total amount you owe. Anticipated financial aid shows in the Pending Financial Aid column. This includes all grants and University scholarships and will only include Stafford Loans which have been accepted in MaineStreet and outside scholarships after the scholarship check has been received.

Please report any funds in Anticipated Resources that are not already included as anticipated financial aid. If you have a remaining balance due after anticipated financial aid has been applied, you must report Anticipated Resources or pay the remaining balance by the bill’s due date in order to avoid a late payment fee. Outside scholarships or other outside assistance must also be reported to the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Monitor your MaineStreet Account

Students should be monitoring their MaineStreet Message Center and To Do List for important messages and/or requests for information from campus offices. The Message Center and To Do List can both be found on the Student Center.
