Faculty Incentive Grants - Preparing for the Semester

The following steps need to be taken in order to prepare for your first week of classes.  If you have any questions, please contact medea.steinman@maine.edu.

1. IRB Certification: Please make sure you have completed your IRB training before the semester begins. You must be added to UMaine’s list of approved investigators before you begin teaching your FIG course.  IRB training is ethics training for people who conduct research involving human subjects.  For instructions and the training link visit the IRB website.  Please let us know when you have completed your training.

TIP: Leave yourself plenty of time to complete this training.  You may want to complete it over multiple sessions.

2. Read the entire webpage, Surveys & Assessments, and please prepare to administer those during the first week of classes.

3. Fill out the FIG Timeline (PDF) and FIG Worksheet (PDF):  These will help you plan your course schedule, particularly with respect to the FIG-related surveys and assessments.  Once you have scheduled times to administer the attitude survey and content assessment, if you haven’t already done so, please mail your worksheet to medea.steinman@maine.edu.

4. Explain IRB to your students:  In order to help us meet our obligations to the Institutional Review Board, please see Surveys & Assessments for IRB information that you need to share with students.  MainePSP staff are available to help by visiting your class and speaking to your students.
