In 2013-2014, MaineESP professional development will follow an adapted version of the Talk Science professional development program. The objectives for the 2013-2014 MaineESP professional development program are to:
The MaineESP leverages a “Science Resource Partner Community” approach by enhancing the traditional “Train the Trainer” model with an ongoing professional learning community. Through this model, 50 Science Resource Partners provide 20 hours of science professional development to 960 elementary teachers, educational technicians and special education teachers across the state of Maine.
Science Resource Partners (SRPs) are elementary teachers who are passionate about teaching science and want to serve as a hub for science support resources in their district. SRPs will join a professional learning community of other elementary science teachers from across the state and participate in ongoing professional development. With the support of the MaineESP, faculty from the University of Maine and the SRP community, Science Resources Partners will lead science study groups and professional development opportunities in their district or region.
MaineESP Collaboratives are open to all elementary teachers, regardless of school or district. Collaboratives are a chance for scientists and educators to get together and discuss the teaching and learning of science. Collaboratives are held regionally at central locations (Downeast, Mid-coast, and Central) and include dinner and a stipend for attendance.
