Campus Programs - Maine Learning Assistants
The Maine Learning Assistant Program provides a unique opportunity for undergraduates to work closely with faculty and to assist them in trying out innovative instructional strategies. As a Maine Learning Assistant (MLA), you might, for example, facilitate peer discussions during small-group activities. Through your participation in this program, you will have the chance to review course content and learn about teaching, both of which are valuable experiences for students interested in any STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) career. The program also provides a great opportunity for you to explore your level of interest in a career in science and math teaching.
MLAs are paid a stipend ($1000 per semester) to work approximately 10 hours per week to assist with instruction in large-enrollment science or math courses. Specific responsibilities include: (1) Assisting the lead instructor and TAs in the classroom and/or recitation sections, (2) Preparing for instructional duties, and (3) Participating in a one-credit STEM Education Seminar.
