About Us

The Maine Outing Club (MOC), officially formed in 1923 at the University of Maine, is built on an interest in the outdoors – from  hiking & skiing to trail maintenance & conservation. Trips around the state (and out of state) are organized in part by the leadership committee and the members themselves.

Outings are organized each weekend and vary from a gentle spring day hike to a weekend winter camping trip. We rely on members to carpool so that everyone has the chance to experience the Maine outdoors. Everyone is welcome to come to the weekly meetings and join in the fun!

Membership to MOC is $20 per year which entitles members to all trips and use of any of the club’s equipment. There is an additional $40 fee for the use of the club’s cabin at the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain. This fee helps cover the cabin’s expenses and is waived with the members’ participation on the Fall cabin work trip.

To find out more, come to our weekly Wednesday meetings at 5:15 PM in the COE room on the main floor of the Memorial Union.
