Friday, November 1, 2013, 5:30-9:30 PM, University of Maine Hutchinson Center, Belfast

SuEllen Hamkins, MD, will give a talk about the challenges and successes of mother-daughter groups. Dr. Hamkins is a psychiatrist and author, co-creator of The Mother-Daughter Project, a grassroots initiative that explores how to best support the wellbeing of adolescent girls, mothers, and mother-daughter relationships, and co-author of the book, The Mother-Daughter Project:  How Mothers and Daughters Can Band Together, Beat the Odds, and Thrive Through Adolescence. Following SuEllen’s talk there will be an opportunity for mothers to connect with other mothers interested in starting a mother-daughter group.

Saturday, November 2, 2013, 8:30-4:00 PM, University of Maine Hutchinson Center, Belfast

Dr. Lyn Mikel Brown & Dana Bushee Hernandez, will provide an all-day training on creating hardiness zones for girls and bringing Adventure Girls to Belfast.  Dr. Brown is a Professor of Education at Colby College, co-author of Packaging Girlhood: Rescuing Our Daughter’s From Marketers’ Schemes, and co-founder of the organization Hardy Girls Healthy Women. Dana Bushee Hernandez is the Training and Education Manager at Hardy Girls Healthy Women.
